The first
anniversary event took place at Plaisterers’ Hall and was attended by Antonio
Horta-Ósario, Lloyds CEO. It was also an opportunity to welcome new scholars to
the scheme.
An event on Thursday 15 November celebrated the first anniversary of the Lloyds Scholars programme. UCL students currently receive scholarships from the bank. They are all first year undergraduates based in a wide range of faculties studying a variety of courses. Every scholar is allocated a mentor within the bank, will complete a summer internship and have the opportunity to participate in other skills development and networking opportunities during the course of the programme. They receive £1,000 bursary per year of study, and can gain additional awards based on how well they do in their studies. The students are under no obligation to work for Lloyds upon graduation but previous scholars from other universities have been offered jobs at the bank. The scholars have all committed to undertake 100 hours of volunteering per year in their community, while they are at UCL.
