Fantastic opportunity for UCL community to buy affordable art
UCL staff and students have the chance to buy affordable, original works of art just in time for Christmas, at a special event on 10 December. UCL Picture Club's Holiday Sale will take place between 1pm and 5pm in the Haldane Room, selling a selection of works from the vaults of UCL Picture Club to the public on a first come, first buy basis. The selection includes a wide variety of pictures at prices from £25 - £400: large and small, oils, watercolours, screen prints, colours to monochrome. Highlights in the sale include early works by Brendan Neiland, former keeper of the Royal Academy Schools, and Laetitia Yhap, former Slade student whose work is in national collections and the subject of many solo exhibitions including at the Serpentine. The UCL Picture Club was founded in 1960 by 15 academics and now owns 146 contemporary works of art, ranging from bold abstracts in oils to delicate watercolour landscapes. The Club holds meetings once a term, in which art is loaned out to members who can socialise over a glass or two of free wine while choosing their favourites. Pictures are then returned the following term for the next draw.
