Festival of Volunteering at UCL
UCL and UCLU are launching a two-week Festival of Volunteering this summer. The programme will include talks, workshops and social events, as well as lots of practical opportunities to get involved in short term volunteering. John Braime of the Volunteering Services Unit (VSU) explained: "UCL is becoming well known as a place where students want to engage with the community. They want to feel as if they're taking part in the life of London, and recognise that volunteering is a good way to do it. We've organised this fortnight to make it easy for students to get involved, and to give them a taste of what volunteering is all about." Highlights of the Festival will include workshops on working with children, getting funding for community projects, and on turning your volunteering into CV gold. The VSU's community partners have organised a series of one-off volunteering events, and the student-run Volunteering Society will also be holding their annual summer picnic. We've organised this fortnight to make it easy for students to get involved, and to give them a taste of what volunteering is all about.
