From Botswana to Nottingham international athletes head to University Park

PA 155/09 A global sports event uniting athletes from 20 nations is set to take place at The University of Nottingham this month. The week-long Tri-Campus Games — the first tournament featuring competing teams form all three of the University's national campuses — takes place from Monday June 22. Athletes from Botswana, Hungary, Laos and Sudan are among those heading to University Park for the tournament, a unique event in higher education. The Ningbo, Malaysia and UK teams will compete in traditional sports — including squash, badminton, basketball and swimming — as well as emerging popular sports, such as Futsal, Ultimate Frisbee and Wattbike relay racing. Each of the campuses has held trials to select their teams and the field is looking strong. Teams are a mix of many different nations — the GB Mixed Volleyball Team features members from Sweden, France, Hungary, Spain, Trinidad and Malaysia whilst the Malaysian Ladies Futsal Team includes Sri Lankan, Sudanese, Kenyan, Botswanan and Malaysian nationals amongst its players. Teams are also a mix of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
