On Friday the 23rd of August the yearly Commencement and Matriculation Ceremony was held at Ghent University Global Campus to celebrate both graduating students and freshmen.
Five years have passed since the establishment of the extended campus in South Korea. In those years the student population at Ghent University Global Campus has rapidly increased. We now count 435 bachelor level students, 21 doctoral students and the figures continue to rise. The Ghent University Global Campus journey is far from accomplished. Many ambitions remain to be fulfilled in the years to come.
Rector Rik Van de Walle from the home campus in Ghent attended the meaningful ceremony and honorably participated in conferment of degree for the first GUGC graduates and badge ceremony for Fall semester freshmen.
"Dear graduates and freshmen, for both of you a new adventure is about to begin. Don’t forget to always dare to aim higher and to make a difference, for yourself and the world!" - Rector Rik Van de Walle
GUGC Deputy President Taejun Han also delivered his welcoming and farewell remarks and professor Stephen Depuydt, GUGC Education Director gave a warmhearted congratulatory speech for all graduating students. In addition to graduates and freshmen, their parents, professors, current GUGC students the ceremony was attended by Lee Won-jae, commissioner of the Incheon Free Economic Zone and Andre Nothomb of Solvay Asia Pacific.
