Global cities, local sites U21 launches first e-book

PA190/09 The University of Nottingham is part of an international development in e-publishing that will help to improve global collaboration on key issues facing the world today. Universitas 21 (U21), the leading network for international higher education of which The University of Nottingham is a member, has launched the first in a series of innovative e-books on global themes and issues, in collaboration with Melbourne University Publishing. The first e-book, Global Cities/Local Sites, edited by Professor Will Straw of McGill University in Canada and Professor Douglas Tallack, formerly of The University of Nottingham, is a multi-media collection of essays on seven world cities in which key global issues - flows of information, images, people and products - are explored through the analysis of local sites. These issues include new forms of social and cultural mix, new urban projects and new forms of urban practice in public space. Global Cities/Local Sites will be followed, in 2010, by Ports and Borders: Cultural Transfer, edited by Professor Nicholas Hewitt of the School of Modern Languages and Cultures at The University of Nottingham, and subsequently by Modern Mobilities, edited by Professor Andrew Dawson of The University of Melbourne.
