In cinemas 2013

6 June 2013 - The European Space Agency has partnered with Sony Pictures International to support the release of their latest blockbuster, After Earth . Both ESA and the film share common themes of concern for Earth's future and educating the next generation. Science fiction can entertain and inspire us. It can also make us think about what the future holds. In a similar way, space exploration can do the same. ESA's science programme tries to answer questions such as how did our Earth and our Solar System evolve, where did life come from or are we alone in the Universe? ESA's Earth observation programme, however, focuses on understanding the most precious planet of all: Earth. In After Earth , the main character finds himself stranded on a future Earth that is heavily polluted and environmentally damaged.
