Justice the Hon Annabelle Bennett has served as ANU Pro-Chancellor for 13 years.
ANU Chancellor Professor The Hon Gareth Evans AO has thanked and congratulated retiring Pro-Chancellor The Hon Justice Annabelle Bennett AO, who today will receive an honorary doctorate from the University. Justice Bennett has been Pro-Chancellor of The Australian National University since November 1998 and has played an extensive role in the running of the University. In her time as Pro-Chancellor she has served on a wide range of committees and acted as a deputy to four Chancellors: Professor Evans, The Hon Kim Beazley AC, Allan Hawke AC and Professor Peter Baume AC. She has stepped down after 13 years in the job and will be replaced by fellow University Council member Ilana Atlas. Justice Bennett's contribution to the University will be recognised at today's graduation ceremony where she will receive the honorary doctorate of Doctor of the University. Professor Evans said that Justice Bennett had served the University with dedication and distinction. 'Justice Bennett has given ANU extraordinary service, as a member of Council since 1996 and as Pro-Chancellor since 1998,' he said.
