King’s appoints first Head to new Mathematics School

King's College London is delighted to announce that Dan Abramson has been appointed as the first Head of the new King's College London Mathematics School, due to open in 2014. Mr Abramson has been Head of Mathematics at Highgate School in North London since 2007. He is also head of the school's outreach teaching, in which Highgate has a high profile and expanding programme for able pupils in local state schools. Mr Abramson will take up his post in the autumn. Dan Abramson has a first class degree in mathematics from Cambridge University and has a notable track record of commitment to excellent classroom practice, developing an innovative curriculum and active outreach to London schools. He will become the first Head of the specialist school for talented young mathematicians which forms part of the Government's plans to improve mathematics education in the state sector and increase the number of mathematically talented young people with the right levels of attainment to study science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects at top-rated universities. Dan said: 'I am delighted to take up such an instrumental role in this game-changing school.
