King's Choral Evensong on BBC Radio 3

On Wednesday 4 January 2017 the regular weekly broadcast of Choral Evensong on BBC Radio 3 will be a service for Epiphany from the Chapel of King's College London. At 3.30pm listeners can follow the journey from Christmas to Epiphany, through music and readings recorded onsite at King's in December. Revd Tim Ditchfield , King's College Chaplain led the service with readings from Professor Ed Byrne, President and Principal of King's as well as other academics and staff. The Revd Canon Professor Richard Burridge , Dean of King's College London and Professor of Biblical Interpretation gave a short sermon focussing on the need to look and work for the promise of peace on earth throughout the year - especially after the European referendum and various elections, not just at Christmas. The theme of the coming of the Christchild and the hope of peace on earth is also expressed in the music sung by the Chapel Choir - four motets on the Nativity by Francis Poulenc, and Arnold Schoenberg's majestic Friede auf Erden . King's is a regular part of the Choral Evensong schedule and was the first non-Oxbridge university Chapel to feature in the programme. This recording marks the third time King's has hosted the Epiphany service, so once again we are delighted to start the new year in this way.
