Laura Muir set for World Athletics Championship final
University of Glasgow veterinary medicine student and lead sports bursar, Laura Muir, is also one of Scotland's top middle-distance runners. Tomorrow, on Tuesday 25 August, she'll compete in her first-ever global final in the women's 1500m event at the World Athletics Championships in Beijing. 22-year-old Laura won her place in the final after finishing third behind Ethiopian Genzebe Dibaba, who broke the 1500m world record in Monaco in July. Calum Hill, who oversees the University's Talented Athlete Programme said: "We were absolutely delighted to see Laura cruise into the final and she'll be looking to run even faster than she did in Monaco. It'll be a huge moment for her and she's worked so hard to get there. We'll all be cheering her on around the University tomorrow." Laura set her own record in Monaco at the same time, becoming the first Scottish woman to break the four-minute mark during a 1500m race. She also won a Diamond League outing in Oslo, and is currently ranked fourth in the world in her discipline this year.
