Literature Meets Criticism

International Conference of Friedrich Schlegel Graduate School of Literary Studies at Freie Universität Berlin from June 27 to 29, 2019. No 056/2019 from Mar 13, 2019 Literary perspectives on concepts of criticism are the subject of an international conference to be held June 27 to 29 at the Berlin campus of Indiana University (IU Europe Gateway). The conference Poetic Critique will focus on the concept of poetic criticism developed by the early Romantic writer and literary historian Friedrich Schlegel. According to Friedrich Schlegel, criticism should not be viewed primarily as being judgmental, but rather it should contribute to complementing and further developing works of art. The aim of the conference is to discuss current and historical forms of the concept of criticism, with the intention of contributing to a rapprochement of literature and literary studies, art and criticism, and poetry and poetology in the sense of Schlegel. The conference is public, and the conference language is English. Participation is free, and registration is not required.
