15 Oct 2013 Thursday, 17 October marks the tenth anniversary of the opening of the Martin Harris Centre for Music and Drama. The celebrations begin on Thursday with a lunchtime concert at 1.10pm from University of Manchester alumnus, Marcus Farnsworth, followed by a masterclass with the baritone. There will also be an invitation-only keynote speech from Sir Martin Harris CBE. This event will also feature an 'in conversation' between two Manchester alumnae, actress and writer Meera Syal MBE and broadcaster Sheila McClennon. The following day, visitors will be able to hear the children of Oswald Road Primary School performing songs from different cultures in Sing Out and Stand Tall , while a group of young women from Gorton will deliver a spoken-word performance about their lives in Made in Manchester . Both shows are part of the Arts Access Fair, launched to mark ten years of arts for all. Over the past decade the Martin Harris Centre has established itself as an important venue for teaching, research and public engagement for the School of Arts, Languages and Cultures and the wider University.
