Maths School Head speaks at Conservative Party Conference
Dan Abramson spoke at today's Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham, where he outlined the vision of King's College London Mathematics School and his passion for the 'Queen of the sciences.' Mr Abramson, Headteacher of the new School, was invited to speak by Secretary of State for Education, Nicky Morgan MP, following the official opening last week. He described the 'enormous economic value of Mathematics' and its 'powerful application' in the careers of physicists, engineers, statisticians and computer scientists. 'Our goal is not just to have people progress to university, but also to ensure they succeed when they get there', he added. Mr Abramson said he is 'very proud' of the School's 43 per cent female intake, which marks a step forward for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects that are historically under-represented by girls. He also commented on the School's extended curriculum, which creates 'meaningful interactions' with researchers and academics at King's, as well as its commitment to access, both at sixth form and through enrichment programmes at GCSE level.
