National sailing championships set to come to Plymouth
The British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) National Sailing Competition will be held in Plymouth on 6-7 November for the first time in 10 years. A partnership of the UPSU Sailing Club, Mount Batten Watersports Centre and the University of Plymouth Recreation Department bid for the event and even staged a mini competition last November – the Devon Destroyer – to demonstrate what Plymouth could offer. The BUCS Sailing Competition is highly regarded in the sailing world, and any student sailors who are at national level will be competing. This will include the five students at national level who are currently studying at the University of Plymouth. Head of Sports and Recreation Lesley Coulton said; “We are very excited to be able to host the event, and will ensure its success. It is an opportunity for our students to compete at the highest level and to showcase our facilities to visiting students and potential future students. Marine Sports Science and Events Management students will also have the opportunity to work on the organisation of the event.
