Philippe Wieser
Philippe Wieser will conduct a research project that studies the value chain performances. Supported by the general management of Nestlé, the project entitled " A convergent approach on sustainable value chain performance " aims at finding out how quality contributes to the value of an enterprise and to sustainability. The research will also seek to answer whether the application of quality norms constitute a factor of resilience of the enterprise or not. More specifically, the objective of the project is to define and measure the impact of voluntary and legal standards on the product or service value chain, in terms of quality and performance. It will assess the impact (positive, neutral or negative) on the operation of the company, not only in management (marketing, finance, governance, production, purchasing, customer service) or performance quality (lean management) but also the sustainability of the company, its flexibility, agility and its ability to identify and mitigate risks (human, technical, commercial, health, environemental). The study will first investigate the chocolate production and will then be tested on the coffee production. Simone Voldrich, PhD student at the Chair of Logistics, Economics & Management (LEM) will be involved in the project, under the supervision of Philippe Wieser with the active support of Anthony Huggett, vice-president of Nestlé and Michel Jaccard of EPFL.
