New chapter at The University of Nottingham Ningbo, China
PA24/09 A new chapter has opened at The University of Nottingham Ningbo, China, with the appointment of a new Provost and CEO to lead the campus into its next phase of development. Professor Peter Buttery's highly successful term as Provost and Chief Executive Officer came to an end on February 1, 2009, after two years which have seen rapid growth and development at The University of Nottingham Ningbo. He is succeeded by Professor Roger Woods, who has extensive experience of both senior academic management and of working in China. Professor Buttery took over management of The University of Nottingham Ningbo in January 2007 and has overseen significant successes including the growth in student numbers to more than 3,600 from over 25 countries. He has led the campus during a major expansion of research activity, with the opening of the Centre for Sustainable Energy Technologies, the Centre for Global Finance, the Research Centre in International Finance, the Centre for Applied Linguistics and the China branch of the Leverhulme Globalisation and Economic Policy Centre. Professor Buttery is Professor of Applied Biochemistry and a former Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty of Science at The University of Nottingham. On his return to Nottingham he will continue to contribute to the development of the University's internationalisation strategy.
