New Registrar appointed
University 27 Jul 10 Professor Ewan McKendrick, currently Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education, Academic Services and University Collections), Herbert Smith Professor of English Private Law, and Fellow of Lady Margaret Hall, has been appointed Registrar of the University of Oxford. He will take up the post on 1 January 2011. Professor McKendrick succeeds Dr Julie Maxton, who has been appointed Executive Director of the Royal Society. Professor Andrew Hamilton, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oxford, said: 'We are delighted that Professor McKendrick has accepted the role of Registrar. He brings with him a wealth of experience in academia, the law, and university administration, experience which will be vital in ensuring that the University of Oxford remains a world-leading academic institution.' Professor McKendrick said: 'I am looking forward to taking over the role of Registrar during this challenging time for higher education in the United Kingdom, to building on the work of Dr Julie Maxton, and to playing my part in continuing to ensure that Oxford remains at the forefront of delivering excellence in teaching and research. I am looking forward to taking over the role of Registrar during this challenging time for higher education in the United Kingdom Professor McKendrick holds law degrees from the University of Edinburgh and the University of Oxford. He has been Lecturer in Law at Lancashire Polytechnic (now the University of Central Lancashire), the University of Essex, the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and the University of Oxford.
