Construction work on a new science precinct at The Australian National University has been given the seal of approval today by the Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research. The project forms part of a $240 million science infrastructure renewal project under way in the University's Banks Precinct, including $90 million from the Commonwealth Government's Education Infrastructure Fund and another $150 million from the Sciences Transformation Project, made up of Government and ANU funding. The Chemical Sciences Hub project will create two new chemistry buildings, a new science teaching building, and a combined sciences workshop. Work is due to be completed in 2013. Senator Carr said the buildings would attract more people to study science in Australia, helping to build on Australia's innovation capacity. 'The best and the brightest need tools to work with and fit places to work in,' he said. 'You can't do quality research and quality education [in science] without the infrastructure.
