Oxford academics honoured by The Queen
A number of Oxford academics have been recognised in The Queen's Birthday Honours List. In the list of honours released on 11 June 2011, Professor Christopher Hood and emeritus professor Wendy James were made CBEs while OBEs have been awarded to Professor Richard Darton and Professor Jeremy Thomas. Christopher Hood, Gladstone professor of government at the University of Oxford and fellow of All Souls College, has been made a CBE for services to social science. Professor Hood has also taught at the London Shool of Economics, University of Sydney, University of Glasgow and National University of Singapore, having studied at Glasgow and York, and his research interests include executive government, regulation and public-sector reform. Richard Darton, professor of engineering science, senior research fellow at Keble and president of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering is awarded with an OBE for services to engineering. Professor Darton has made a significant contribution to the Department of Engineering Science at Oxford, heading up the department from 2004 to 2009 and helping to set up the new course in chemical engineering in 1991. Previously he had been manager of the chemical engineering development group of Shell International Chemicals.
