Oxford celebrates a decade of international scholarships

University 20 Nov 10 The largest scholarship for international graduate students run by Oxford University started its tenth anniversary celebrations this week. The Clarendon Fund's Annual Reception at the Oxford Town Hall featured more than 200 past and current scholars kicking off a year of celebrations. The Fund's scholarship is principally funded by Oxford University Press, a department of the University, and also by partnerships with Oxford's colleges and external donors. The Annual Reception honours the achievements of current scholars and this year featured a celebration of the more than 900 Clarendon scholars who have studied at Oxford since the Fund was established in 2000. Oxford's Vice-Chancellor and the chief executive of Oxford University Press also announced the launch of the Fulbright-Oxford Clarendon Scholarships , an award jointly funded with the Fulbright Commission. This year the contribution made by the University's individual colleges towards partnership Clarendon Scholarships has exceeded more than £1m for the first time. Professor Andrew Hamilton, the University's Vice-Chancellor, said: 'The Clarendon Scholarships are a great success story, showing Oxford's ability to attract and support the best students from around the world.
