Rail industry on track for 2040

A new vision for the Australian rail supply industry to deliver more effective, more efficient, higher quality service to its customers has been released today as part of a collaboration involving The Australian National University. On Track to 2040 - Vision is the first milestone for the Rail Manufacturing Technology Roadmap for the Australian rail manufacturing sector. The project has seen ANU Edge working with the CRC for Rail Innovation and the University of Cambridge Institute for Manufacturing and Strategic Connections group. Launched today by the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research's Rail Supplier Advocate, Bruce Griffiths, the vision report documents the data gathered in Phase I of the project. ANU Edge Director Sarah Pearson said the data fed into a rail vision workshop, which was held in Melbourne in July with 40 key industry leaders, manufacturers, service providers, researchers, policy makers and industry bodies. 'The vision report highlights opportunities for the Australian rail manufacturing sector, identifying areas for industry focus and investment to boost capability and encourage innovation,' she said. The next phase of the roadmap will determine the existing strengths, capabilities and market needs of the industry to help identify opportunities for the rail manufacturing sector.
