Record numbers choose brain food for lunch
They're just a few of the topics covered by this year's free Lunch Hour Lecture series, which has captured the imagination of more people than ever before. The lectures, which have been running since the 1940s and rated as one of the 10 best ways to spend your lunch break in London by The Guardian , featured some of the university's most high-profile academics. Their provocative subject matter included a defence of the right to think obscene thoughts, ruminations on the dark side of the universe, a debate about the appearance of aliens, a focus on World Aids Day and a celebration of Mahatma Gandhi's birth. UCL's 'mini-lecture' series on YouTube has also proved a hit online with thousands of people watching the bite-sized introductions to some of the university's ground-breaking research.
