Brodie Buckland and James Marburg.
Postgraduate law student Brodie Buckland will have his sights sets on gold when he competes at the London Olympics in July. Brodie, who will be competing in the men's rowing pair with Melbourne University student James Marburg, has been training for London since 2009. The fact that he will be part of the 2012 Australian Olympic team is taking a while to sink in, says Brodie. "The transition from a weedy, geeky kid who started rowing 12 years ago to my current position is a little surreal," he said. "It's a great honour to be selected to represent Australia in the Olympics. Being a part of something so amazing, so transcendent is a dream made real." Originally hailing from the United States, Brodie recently became an Australian citizen and has been at studying at ANU since early 2010. Having access to flexible learning materials, such as online lecture recordings, and support from fellow students and faculty members has been an integral part of his sporting success, says Brodie.
