Ruskin receives Oscar-winning thanks as Alumni Society launched
2011 Oscar-winner Paul Franklin, who won an Oscar for Visual Effects on the film Inception, has this week credited the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art for shaping his work as a visual effects artist and filmmaker. His comments come as the Ruskin School launches its Alumni Society this year. Mr Franklin, who matriculated in 1986 studying Fine Art, said: 'As well as teaching me practical skills as an artist, the Ruskin provided the support and space for me to develop my creative thinking, [and] Oxford University taught me how to work with an amazing diverse array of people. The lessons I learned and the insight I gained into the creative visual process play an essential part in my work as a visual effects artist and filmmaker.' One of the society's aims is to provide a link between alumni and current students and teachers at the school, and Mr Franklin offered some advice to current students who would like to follow in his career path. He said: 'Film is a wonderfully flexible medium that encompasses all sorts of different modes of artistic expression. Think about the story that you want to tell and then start thinking about how you want to tell it.
