School of the Arts Alumni and Faculty Win 2010 Tony Awards

Broadway productions involving Columbia University School of the Arts Theatre Arts Program alumni and faculty won several prestigious Tony awards at the 63rd annual ceremony on June 7, including the Tony for Best Play, which went to Red , produced by Barbara Whitman (MFA '05). Red won six Tonys, including Best Play, Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play (Alfred Molina), Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Play (Eddie Redmayne), Best Direction of a Play (Michael Grandage), Best Scenic Design of a Play (Christopher Oram), Best Lighting Design of a Play (Neil Austin), and Best Sound Design of a Play (Adam Cork). A View From the Bridge , directed by Theatre Arts Professor and Columbia University Arts Initiative Director Gregory Mosher, won the Tony for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Play (Scarlett Johansson). This year's Regional Theatre Tony Award went to The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center, Waterford, Connecticut. The Artistic Director of the O'Neill's National Theater Institute, Jeff Janisheski (MFA '05), along with the Center's other directors, accepted the award presented by actor Michael Douglas.
