Stars come out for first city sports fair
Members of the public are being invited to play table tennis against machines and rub shoulders with two of Plymouth’s sporting superstars at an event designed to promote health and well-being in the city. Sprinter Katherine Endacott and weightlifter Michaela Breeze will be encouraging people who attend the Community Sports Fair, taking place at Plymouth University on March 15, to be more active. The event, which is also open to University staff and students, is designed to celebrate the city’s sporting successes while a range of live demonstrations will bid to inspire people of all ages and abilities to try their hands at a new sport. Louise Francis, Coaching and Community Activity Development Officer at Plymouth University, said: “This is the first time an event of this kind has been held in Plymouth and one of the main aims is to strengthen the links between the University, community and local clubs. We want to give individuals the chance to see and experience the variety of sport and activity offered and find out how they can get involved. The fair is part of the University’s Motivate, Generate, Activate project, which is funded by Sport England and aims to promote student participation and sustainability through sport and physical activity. Commonwealth 100m silver medallist Endacott will officially open the fair, while double Commonwealth champion Breeze will be giving a motivational talk based on her successes.
