Sussex top in England for postgraduate study rates

Sussex top in England for postgraduate study rates. The University of Sussex is joint first in England, with Oxford, for the proportion of graduates going on to further study. Figures released by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) show that 35 per cent of Sussex's class of 2015 are now in further study, training or research - more than twice the UK average of 16 per cent. Professor Clare Mackie, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, says that Sussex has put expanding its postgraduate community at the heart of its strategy over the past few years. She says: "For a research-intensive university like Sussex, it is vital that we have a vibrant postgraduate student community. "Not only is it a great personal achievement to study for a Masters or professional qualification but these are our country's future problem solvers and innovators and we must nurture and support them." Two major scholarships were launched in 2013 in order to attract and retain the brightest students and to address some of the financial barriers to postgraduate study. The Sussex Graduate Scholarship scheme provides £5,000 or £3,500 for Sussex undergraduates who get a first or 2:1 and go straight on to a Masters at the University.
