Ten Years of Transformational Thinking

As the Institute of Advanced Study (IAS) celebrates its ten year anniversary, Professor Veronica Strang , Director of the Institute, explains what the IAS strives to achieve, its impact over the last decade, and how it is celebrating this milestone year. Tell us about the Institute of Advanced Study and the work that it does. In bringing to Durham a vital flow of distinguished Fellows from around the world, the IAS creates an international network of leading researchers who return home as enthusiastic ambassadors for the University. Many IAS Fellows collaborate with Durham colleagues to produce international projects and publications. The IAS supports interdisciplinary research developments across the University, both through and outside its annual research theme. Over the last decade annual themes have included Being Human , Light , Emergence and Evidence . Our theme for 2016-2017 is Scale .
