This Sunday voters in Thailand head to the polls to choose their next government, and the Southeast Asia experts at New Mandala will be following every step of the way with live blogging from 6pm on Sunday night and a video update once the results are in. New Mandala co-founders, Andrew Walker and Nicholas Farrelly, will be tracking the action through their network of contacts and sources, and giving live updates on their popular blog throughout the night. The election is one of Southeast Asia's most hotly-contested in recent memory, as Farrelly explained. "On Sunday the election winning machine of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra squares off against a government that will do everything it can to stay in power. With Thaksin's sister, Yingluck Shinawatra, as the opposition's candidate for Prime Minister it will be a lively night”, suggested Farrelly. "Indeed this is a referendum on Thailand's recent turmoil: on the coup against Thaksin in 2006, on royal and military involvement in politics, and on the crackdown against red shirt protesters in May 2010,” added Walker. The New Mandala team will begin live blogging the election from 6pm Canberra time - as the polls come to a close in Thailand.
