The Faceless Men

The Faceless Men by Gary Smith and Frank Thirion - Oil, acrylic and pigment on canvas Selected as a finalist in this year's Archibald Prize, The faceless men is a collaborative work between ANU alumni Gary Smith and Frank Thirion. The four-panel work consists of two panels by each artist: one a self-portrait, the other a portrait of his collaborator. The painting arose from an ongoing 10-year dialogue between the artists, which began when they shared adjoining studios at the ANU School of Art while undertaking postgraduate studies in painting. Mr Smith is a visiting fellow at ANU and exhibition coordinator for the Canberra Museum and Gallery ACT. Thirion is a seasonal lecturer in the ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences.
