Tony Harrison and Kate Tempest headline Lyric 2013
Some of Britain's best-loved poets are set to appear at Lyric 2013, Sheffield's popular festival of poetry and music taking place in the city between 2 and 5 May 2013. Tony Harrison, Kate Tempest, Lavinia Greenlaw and Simon Armitage are just some of the names performing their poetry at this year's festival, which showcases local, national and international talent from household names to emerging stars. The festival, now in its third year, is organised by Simon Armitage, Professor of Poetry at the University of Sheffield and Dr Joanna Gavins, both from the University's School of English. Students on the School's MA in Creative Writing will begin the festival showcasing their work in the University Arms on Thursday 2 May before Tony Harrison's performance at St George's Church, Mappin Street. With published poetry spanning four decades, Tony Harrison is one of Britain's most significant and original poets and one of the country's most captivating readers. Tony is also regarded as Britain's foremost theatre poet and pioneered collaborative work between television and poetry. He will perform at Lyric on Thursday 2 May.
