Tributes paid to Professor Sir Clive Granger, 1934 2009

PA 149/09 Academics at The University of Nottingham have paid tribute to world-renowned economist Professor Sir Clive Granger, who has died at the age of 74. Sir Clive, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences in 2003, had a profound influence in the field of time series analysis over almost half a century, becoming one of the most prominent econometricians in the world. He leaves a legacy of research and analysis that will continue to be important for years to come. Sir Clive spent more than 22 years at The University of Nottingham as an undergraduate, lecturer, reader and ultimately as a professor. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for his development of the concept of cointegration, a scheme for recognizing and understanding stable relationships in the midst of an otherwise constantly changing economic environment. Professor David Greenaway, Vice-Chancellor of The University of Nottingham, said: "Clive was a towering intellect, irrepressibly curious, and a great simplifier and communicator. These traits, blended with his openness and complete lack of pretension, ensured he always had a positive impact on those around him.
