UCL launches new race equality scheme
UCL launched a new race equality scheme in July at an event hosted by Sir Stephen Wall, Chair of UCL Council. The new scheme was developed in consultation with staff and students and sets out UCL's vision and intentions for achieving further outcomes in equality and diversity. The scheme contains an ambitious new target to increase the proportion of black and minority ethnic staff and also focuses on how the organisation can build on the pioneering 'Education for Global Citizenship' programme which engages students in equality and diversity issues through the curriculum. The scheme draws together the University's ambitions to advance race equality by setting out six new objectives. These are to: Sir Stephen explained: ?UCL was founded on a radical vision of inclusivity that remains as relevant today as it was then. We welcome students and staff from across the globe and we strive hard to nurture an environment in which everybody feels valued and is encouraged to reach their full potential. We also recognise, however, that as a world-leading institution, there is always more we can do to make certain that all of our practices encourage and promote equality and diversity.
