Unique Architecture Exhibition Opens at University of Melbourne

An exhibition which sees local architects turn their offices into art opens this week at the University's Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning (ABP). The exhibition, IDEA BUILDING, features large-scale video projections, real and faux materials (photocopied 'plywood' panelled walls, pinboards and bike racks) reflective of Lyons Architecture's Melbourne working space. The installation is part of ABP's Alumni Retrospective Series which highlights the exceptional contribution graduates make to Australia's design culture and built environment. Professor Tom Kvan, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning, said this exhibition series celebrated the work of some of the University's most successful Alumni. "In this show, we are particularly pleased the Melbourne community has been invited into the office of Lyons, a leading Melbourne Architectural firm with significant history in the city, to explore their projects and learn from their practice," he said. Principal of Lyons Architecture Corbett Lyon said the exhibition explored the construction of ideas in architecture. "All of this is presented in a part digital, part real installation that we've constructed - it's an exhibition that we've located somewhere between the artificial and the real," he said.
