ScienTests company: modern, mobile measurement technology tests athletes’ mobility

Sports scientist Christine Janke from Leipzig University and three of her colleagues recently founded the company ScienTests GmbH from the Department of Sports Biomechanics at Leipzig University. With their modern, mobile measurement technology, they test the mobility and resilience of athletes in order to identify potential injury risks and tap into performance reserves. The foundation for their collaboration was laid with a research project at the University of Leipzig under the direction of Maren Witt. The study on this topic ran from 2019 to 2024 and focused on rehabilitation after serious knee injuries in children and adolescents. Over the five years, the researchers included a total of almost 100 children and adolescents from Saxony in their study who had suffered a serious knee injury in school sports. in contrast to recreational or club sports, pupils cannot control the amount of exercise they do at school. After the medically prescribed exemption from sport has expired, unrestricted participation is expected in a school context - regardless of the individual healing process," says Janke. This often leads to great uncertainty among the affected children and their families as to whether they have returned to school sports at the right time. The diagnostics offered by ScienTests take into account both the current rehabilitation status and the specific requirements of school sport. Some time ago, the soccer players from Chemie Leipzig were guests in the movement laboratory of the Faculty of Sports Science to be tested using the measurement technology. ScienTests GmbH has thus successfully completed an important order.

"Citizens make journalism" - A Leipzig project strengthens media confidence in rural areas

How does trust in journalism develop - and how can it be regained in places where skepticism is particularly high? With this question in mind, Leipzig University is launching a project that is unique in Germany: "Citizens make journalism - strengthening media trust for a changing democracy". The aim is to turn people into journalists themselves. Citizens, especially from rural areas, are to be given the opportunity to develop their own journalistic articles: from the idea to research to publication. They are accompanied by experienced media professionals. This not only results in new articles, features or reports, but also a direct exchange between citizens on the one hand and journalists on the other. The first two groups will start at the end of October 2025 in Delitzsch and Zwenkau. We are still looking for citizens who miss their topics in the traditional media and want to become active themselves, journalists from Saxony who would like to pass on their knowledge as coaches, and associations, municipalities and cultural institutions that
