University forges transatlantic links with Californian school
Students from Endeavour Elementary School in Bakersfield, California are having their art, writing and poetry displayed in the University of Plymouth Rolle building. The work concerns their annual Thanksgiving project, and the children are thrilled that their work is on display where the Pilgrim Fathers set sail. Tanya Ovenden-Hope, Associate Dean and Head of School, Secondary and Further Education, says, “This exhibition brings insight, warmth and character to a rich American tradition from a child’s eye view. It is clear that the teaching team at Endeavour have engaged and inspired their pupils. The exhibition was brought to the University of Plymouth by Christopher Groucutt, Subject Forum Chair for Arts in the University of Plymouth Colleges Faculty. “The work is from my wife’s son’s school in California,” he said. We have also created an accompanying blog where staff and students from the Faculty of Education can discuss the work with the teaching team at the school and make links with their American colleagues.
