University hosts a Primary careers event
Pupils from the North Prospect area of Plymouth will be given the chance to swap the school classroom for a university lecture hall for the day. ‘Your Future is Waiting’ is a careers convention which aims to raise aspirations and show young people what they can achieve through education and career opportunities on their own doorstep. A number of representatives from local businesses and organisations will be on hand to speak to pupils, their parents and carers. The day will also include talks and activities with an interactive theme to get children involved in the event to inspire and prepare them for secondary education. Pilgrim Pete, the Plymouth Argyle mascot will be there to meet the children, and there will also be prizes for the best completed activities. The event has been organised by All Saints Academy, Plymouth University, Marine Academy Plymouth, Weston Mill Primary and Stoke Damerel Community College working on behalf of the North Prospect Regeneration Group. It’s the first time it has been held at the University and the lead organiser Donna Whitley from All Saints Academy said: “All Saints has successfully hosted a similar event and it’s encouraging to see how many schools have signed up this year.
