University of Melbourne Vice-Chancellor appoints new Fellows

Ms Ali Moore, Professor Sally Smart, and Professor Gillian Triggs have been appointed Vice-Chancellor's Fellows at the University of Melbourne. University of Melbourne Vice-Chancellor Glyn Davis said the three appointees were outstanding individuals. "They will each make an enormous contribution to the life of the university and its community in their respective fields, and I am delighted three such eminent women will be joining us," Professor Davis said. "Ali Moore's track record as a journalist with the ABC, Nine Network and BBC speaks for itself and her insights - after time spent reporting from China and Singapore - will be fascinating for our students." "Sally Smart is one of Australia's significant contemporary artists, working internationally and held in collections world-wide, bringing her global perspective to the university." "Gillian Triggs has made a mark over a long career as a distinguished academic in international and human rights law, and most recently in her five years as President of the Australian Human Rights Commission. Her presence will be a real asset to the Melbourne Law School," he said. The University of Melbourne's Vice-Chancellor's Fellow program provides distinguished public intellectuals with access to a scholarly environment and the opportunity to work with the University on a project of value to the institution and the wider community. Fellows are appointed in recognition of their achievements and ability to make a distinctive contribution to the life of the University.
