Members of the public who might be interested in a career in education are being invited to a specialist teaching fair at the University of Plymouth next month. The Routes into Teaching Fair will feature a wide range of exhibitions, talks and workshops for educational practitioners, students and individuals considering a move into education. The event, which has the backing of the Training and Development Agency, will be looking to engage a wider audience with the teaching profession, such as encouraging men into primary teaching, and detailing how people can use previous career and life experiences to their benefit in becoming a successful teacher. A number of students and professionals will be on hand to hold topical workshops in which they will share their personal stories, as well as scheduled sessions taken by experts looking at topics such as training routes into the profession, how to develop specific subject-based knowledge, and work-based graduate teaching programmes. Teacher training providers from Devon, Cornwall and Somerset will also be offering information and guidance as part of the exhibition being staged in the Roland Levinsky Building, on the University of Plymouth campus. Organiser Becky Taylor, from the Faculty of Education, said: “The aim of the Routes into Teaching Fair is to look at the various routes you can take to pursue this challenging yet rewarding career.
