University opens doors to locals for first-ever community festival. Residents across Brighton & Hove and Sussex are invited to a day of free fun and discovery at the end of June as the University of Sussex throws open its doors for its first-ever Sussex Community Festival. Everyone is welcome to enjoy a packed programme of events and activities for all ages, from 11am-4pm on Sunday 25 June. The festival will offer sports, crafts and interactive workshops as well as live music, debates and guided tours. On the day, visitors will get to: see how scientific discoveries are made with a guided lab tour learn about law courts by engaging in a mock trial explore a 'bee's eye view' of the world using virtual reality meet the Sussex researchers who are designing the medicines of the future make mathematical connections between a zombie apocalypse, long queues and traffic try out a range of exciting sports, including handball and extreme Frisbee enjoy live music at our Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts discover the beautiful South Downs on a campus boundary walk. They will also have another chance to watch Brighton: Symphony of a City , the acclaimed film about Brighton in all its festive, bohemian, campaigning glory. The piece - fusing silent film and an original musical score - debuted at last year's Brighton Festival and is the work of filmmaker Lizzie Thynne and composer Ed Hughes from the University of Sussex.
