University statement regarding river safety improvements A number of riverside safety improvements are to be carried out in Durham City this summer in response to the review by The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA). The work, which will begin in early July and take around 12 weeks to complete, includes: New lights to provide a designated safe night time route away from the riverbank to the north of the river Improvements to, and more public rescue equipment Resurfacing of the footpath approaching Framwellgate Bridge on the west bank and some other areas Replacement or extension of some riverside barriers Information boards will be on display next to the Gala Theatre in the city's Millennium Place for the next two weeks and can also be viewed at http://www.durham.gov.uk/citysafetygroup
