VCA announces winners of 2010 Art School Awards

More than $30,000 in Scholarships for Art students has been announced by The Victorian College of the Arts, School of Art this week. The awards were announced by Professor Warren Bebbington, Acting Dean of the Faculty of the VCA and Music at the opening of the VCA Masters Exhibition, running until Sunday12 December. Supporting the School of Art since 2002, The Athenaeum Club grants an annual acquisitive award, with artwork acquired by the club's VCA art collection. The KPMG and Vulcan Steel awards are tutorship awards valued at $10,000 for which the patron receives a substantial piece of artwork to the value of $5000 and provides the School funds to employ the students to undertake tutoring in the School of Art. The Irene Sutton Award invites and funds a solo exhibition in Melbourne's prestigious Sutton Gallery Project Space. Director of the VCA, Professor Su Baker enthuses, 'We are delighted with the support that many of our patrons and supporters have extended to this major event. The awards contain valuable professional opportunities and experience as well as giving students the benefit of cash support.' The Masters Exhibition introduces the graduating students from the Master of Visual Art and the Master of Fine Art.
