VCA hosts 40th Anniversary Street Party

The Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) will celebrate 40 years of developing Australia's creative talent with a street party in Southbank on Friday 23 March. Professor Su Baker, Director of the VCA, said the past years had seen some amazing talent emerge, and the street party celebrated the achievements of the VCA, its students, and their significant contributions to Melbourne's thriving cultural scene. "We are looking forward to a great event and invite the Melbourne arts community to come along and join us in this celebration," Professor Baker said. The street party will be hosted by Music Theatre graduate Andrew Doyle, and there will be dynamic live performances from alumni and special guests including bands Clairy Browne & the Bangin' Rackettes (headline act), Saskwatch, ScotDrakula and DJ Manchild. The arts community, members of the public, staff, students, alumni, family and friends are invited to celebrate the VCA's birthday with dancing, games, prizes, and food and drink from one of the many food stalls which will be on site. The VCA has been nurturing some of Australia's finest and most creative talent since 1972. Alumni include Oscar-winner Adam Elliot, actor Julia Zemiro, playwright Hannie Rayson, theatre director Simon Stone, visual artist Patricia Piccinini, fashion designer Mitch Dowd, production designer Anna Cordingley, choreographer Prue Lang and Aria award-winning jazz pianist Andrea Keller.
