Expert filmmakers from the University of Melbourne's Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) will offer an intensive, free workshop called Making Movies for Indigenous teenagers in Portland from Monday 2nd to Friday 6th December 2013. Run in partnership with Glenelg Shire Council, Winda Mara Aboriginal Corporation and Dhauwurd-Wurrung Elderly and Community Health Services, these workshops are part of a Regional Training & Engagement program run by the VCA, funded by the State Government through Arts Victoria and delivered in partnership with Regional Arts Victoria. Adrian Holmes, Lecturer in Film & Television at the VCA, is one of the organisers of the workshop and believes that providing creative opportunities and a 'voice' through storytelling is a very important part of connecting young people to their community and opening up their futures. "Making Movies will provide local Indigenous teenagers with the opportunity and technology to learn the skills of story-telling through film," Mr Holmes said. "All kids love stories and films, and they all respond remarkably intuitively to new technology. Filmmaking workshops like these provide much-needed access to creative people and new technology.
