We love to ride our bicycles, figures show

If the latest figures are anything to go by, Sussex staff love to ride their bicycles to work: hundreds saddled up in 2019 for the cycling initiatives run by Love to Ride. By registering on the Love to Ride website, participants can log miles, set goals and earn badges for cycling to work for a week, riding 100 miles or encouraging a friend or colleague to take part. A total of 76 staff braved the winter weather to take part in last month's Winter Wheelers challenge, clocking up 6,051 miles between them in December. Special mention goes to Stuart Bettis from Sussex Estates and Facilities (SEF), who rode a total of 550 miles over the month, placing him second on the leader board in Brighton and Hove for mileage by a male rider. His cycling exploits also won him a free Love to Ride snood to keep his neck warm on those chilly winter rides. And in the previous challenge, Cycle September 2019, Sussex was a proud winner in the category for workplaces with 2,000 or more staff, for getting almost 6% of staff to log their bike rides. Between them, these staff cycled 12,758 miles and encouraged 13 new riders.
