World première for Sussex grad at BBC Proms
World première for Sussex grad at BBC Proms. Tune in to BBC Radio 3 at 7pm today (18 July) and you'll get to hear the world première of a new composition by a Sussex music alumnus. Fung Lam, who completed his doctorate in Music Composition in May this year, was commissioned to write a piece for the BBC Symphony Orchestra. And the nine-minute work, Endless Forms , will be performed for the first time this evening, as part of the annual BBC Proms in London's Royal Albert Hall. Fung Lam is a Proms first-timer but this is his third commission from the BBC. He says: " Endless Forms was inspired by the last sentence of Charles Darwin's The Origin of Species , and celebrates the insight into the diversity of life. "The title also relates to Buddhism's view of life as endless cycles of forms: birth, death, rebirth." The concert will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3, and is then available online on BBC iPlayer for seven days.
