The Focus: Research Leadership & Strategic Impact

We are looking for an experienced academic with a sustained record of high-quality research outputs and a developing profile of research leadership. In this role, you will provide intellectual leadership and achieve high visibility in your field at both national and international levels.

  • Lead: Contribute to the School’s research strategy and provide leadership within our Research Excellence Groups.
  • Drive: Lead ambitious research agendas, identify and secure external funding, and manage the financial and physical resources of research activities.
  • Mentor: Support the development of colleagues, supervise research students, and lead research teams.
  • Educate: Deliver research-informed, innovative teaching within our distinctive PBL model, ensuring all delivery complies with high-quality standards.

Areas of Expertise

We welcome applications from candidates in all areas of law. However, we are particularly interested in strengthening our expertise in the following areas:

  • Corporate and Commercial Law
  • Healthcare Law
  • Human Rights Law
  • Tort Law
  • Environmental Law


Your research should complement our existing Research Excellence Groups, which include Social Welfare, Law and Administrative Justice; Health and Law; Law and AI; Conflict, Migration, and International Law; Criminalisation; and Private Law and Values.

About You

You are a collaborative academic with a PhD in Law and an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in the law of England and Wales. You possess:

  • ResearchExcellence: A proven track record of high-impact publications in quality journals and a well-established national reputation.
  • TeachingExcellence: Extensive experience in HE teaching and learning, with a willingness to embrace collaborative approaches like PBL.
  • LeadershipSkills: The ability to motivate staff, manage administrative responsibilities, and lead interdisciplinary initiatives.
  • CollaborativeEthos: A commitment to working proactively with colleagues across the department and the wider university
