The Carver College of Medicine is a highly ranked medical school, is among the top twenty-five public medical schools in National Institutes of Health funding, and holds a unique position within the state and region by providing care and expertise for the most complex medical conditions. The Department of Internal Medicine is an integral part of UI Health Care which is a partnership between the College of Medicine and The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics is one of the largest teaching hospitals in the United States and has close affiliation with the adjacent Iowa City Veterans Affairs Medical Center. With nearly 25 faculty members, the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology has exceptional achievement in research, patient care and teaching, as well as a distinguished record of national and international leadership. As part of the James A. Clifton Digestive Health Center, the division provides high-quality clinical care to patients with gastrointestinal, liver, and nutritional diseases in a multidisciplinary environment. Divisional faculty play an important role in educating and mentoring medical students, residents, fellows, and other health care professionals. The division is actively involved in clinical and basic science, with a focus on further understanding gastrointestinal and liver diseases and helping to design improved treatment options for patients with these illnesses. The Division Director will partner with departmental and health system leadership to advance the success of the division. In this capacity, the director will represent the interests of the division, department, and health system. Responsibilities include faculty recruitment, appointments, and evaluations; managing educational, clinical, and research programs; fiscal planning and management; and both short-term and long-term strategic planning.
