Job Summary The Department of Family Medicine strives to provide leadership by advancing the discipline of family medicine through education and research in primary health care, teaching family medicine residents and medical students, and demonstrating our commitment to lifelong learning and the dissemination of knowledge to Maritime family physicians. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Finance Analyst will provide financial analysis, oversight, and reporting for departmental funding received from internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversees day-to-day accounting operations, reconciliations, accounts payable/accounts receivable, and budget variance reporting for range of financial accounts, including ensuring audit compliance.
• Leads financial management, reporting, and audit coordination for tri-provincial residency training sites across Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, including multiple annual site audits.
• Advises executives and regional administrators on financial controls, funding utilization, and evolving residency and program cost structures.
• Represents the department on senior committees and with external partners providing financial analysis, reporting, and recommendations.
• Directs departmental financial reporting, policy development, and project support for new programs and initiatives.
• Manages and supervises unionized financial staff, including hiring, initial and ongoing training, mentoring and providing performance feedback, and scheduling.

Note The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work from within Nova Scotia) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

Required Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in Commerce or Business Administration with approximately three to five years’ related work experience (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
• Experience in financial analysis, reporting, audit, and related accounting functions, including experience working with external auditors.
• Demonstrated accuracy, attention to detail and multi-tasking in a high-volume, quick turnaround, deadline driven environment with frequent interruptions.
• Strong interpersonal and communication (written, verbal and presentation) skills, including the demonstrated ability to handle complex and confidential matters with excellent judgment, discretion, and tact.
• Previous supervisory experience.
• Extensive knowledge and use of financial systems and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel along with demonstrated proficiency in Enterprise Resource Planning systems.

Assets

• Experience with financial analysis in an academic health care environment.
• Experience supervising unionized staff.
• Experience using QuickBooks Desktop or similar accounting software.
